The name Paul Desmond is taken from a Marx Brothers comedy routine. To write Take Five, Paul Desmond lived on a diet of Scheweps and granola. Luckily, it doesn't come across too much in the music. Paul Desmond can be considered the Kid Creole and the Coconuts of Jazz. It's obvious here that the 1960s produced more than just a few masterpieces.
